All the children at Father’s Home come from different backgrounds, but there are some points they have in common. Abandoned, rejected, abused, exploited, despised, and beaten – they have all lived through these traumas and have suffered the hardships of being an orphan.
Each of them has been identified and brought to our attention by individuals anxious for their well-being – that is to say, co-workers of Father’s Home, friends, members of their families or the social services.
Their personal situations have been investigated, studied and discussed. The final decision to take in a child is never reached without consultation with all the persons concerned and the consent of the municipal authorities.
These children now have a home. They are learning to live with others, to live in accordance with certain rules, to show that they respect others and themselves, to take heart, to feel that they are cherished... They are struggling to find an identity, and they have a great need of affection. Little by little, they are once more allowing themselves the right to be children, in quite simple terms.
The presence and involvement of responsible persons, who fill a parental role in relation to the children, is an extremely important factor. They are there to protect, educate and support each of the children in his or her personal development.
They make the children aware of the existence of the living God, a Heavenly Father who wishes to know and love them.
All the children at Father’s Home go to the local public school. Some of them will find this a quite challenging experience, as they have never before had occasion to enter a classroom.
Nonetheless, they all take a lot of trouble with their tasks and make a great deal of progress. Thanks to the support provided by the school governors and the good will of the teachers, children are placed in the appropriate year for their scholastic level, and so can make progress in the rhythm that is best for them.
